Introduction to Disaster Services:
(3 hours) Provides basic information about disaster and its effects,
outlines the roles of agencies in disaster relief, and introduces the
participants to American Red Cross Disaster Services Program.
This is a prerequisite for ALL disaster
classes. Damage
Assessment: (3 hours) Prepares workers to
obtain and report damage assessment information and provide operational
support on disaster operations. Prerequisite:
Introduction to Disaster Services.
Disaster Health Services:
(4 hours) Describes how Disaster Health Services (DHS) functions on a
local or national disaster relief operation and prepares health care
workers for assignment. Prerequisite:
Introduction to Disaster Services.
Disaster Health Services
Simulation: (8 hours) Scenarios and case
studies that Disaster Health Services (DHS) workers may encounter on
typical disaster relief operations in settings such as shelters, case
work centers and emergency aid stations. Completion of this course and
Disaster Health Services qualifies participants to function as a DHS
technician on disaster relief operations.
Prerequisites: Introduction to Disaster Services and Disaster Health
Services.
Disaster Welfare Inquiry:
(3 hours) Learn how to respond to inquiries about the health and
well-being of individuals and families within a diasaster area,
collection information and provide reunification services.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster Services.
Disaster Welfare Inquiry
Simulation: (3.5 hours) Prepares participants
to work as team members in the Disaster Welfare Inquiry (DWI) function
on a disaster relief operation. Prerequisite:
Introduction to Disaster Services and Disaster Welfare Inquiry.
Family Services: Providing
Emergency Assistance: (8 hours) Learn how to
meet the emergency needs of individual families following a local
disaster. Prerequisite: Introduction to
Disaster Services.
Liasion I:
(8 hours) Prepares participants to build and maintain collaborative
relationships which enhance the community's ability to respond to
disaster. Prerequisite: Introduction to
Disaster Services.
Logistics Overview:
(3 hours) Learn how to procure and distribute supplies and materials
required for a disaster relief operation. Includes training in warehouse
operation, management of vehicles and facility maintenance.

Logistics Simulation: (3 hours)
Simulation training for carrying out the Logistics function in the event
of a local disaster or as part of a major disaster relief operation.
Prerequisites: Introduction to Disaster
Services and Logistics Overview.
Emergency Response Vehicle Training:
(6 hours) Participants in this hands-on workshop learn to drive,
maintain and use a Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV). A road
test is included as part of this training.
Prerequisites: Introduction to Disaster Services and a valid driver's
license.
Mass Care Overview:
(3 hours) Participants will learn how the Red Cross meets immediate food
and shelter needs for disaster clients.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster Services.
Records and Reports:
(8 hours) Learn how to process forms, maintain case record files and
compile statistics related to disaster relief operations.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster Services.
Shelter Operations:
(3 hours) This workshop prepares participants to effectively and
sensitively manage shelter operations as a team member, and to meet the
needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster Services.
Shelter Simulation:
(3 Hours) Participants are given an opportunity to practice knowledge
and skills needed to run a successful shelter operation.
Prerequisites: Introduction to Disaster Services, Mass
Care Overview and Shelter Operations.
Workshop for Development of
Community Disaster Presenters: (6 hours)
Prepares participants to deliver quality Community Disaster Education
presentations by focusing on how to choose appropriate messages for
target audiences and selecting materials that convey those messages.
Serving the Diverse Community:
(6 hours) This course is designed to assist all service providers in
meeting the needs of the changing populations in communities of the
American Red Cross.
Public Affairs in Disaster:
(8 hours) The purpose of this course is to assist staff in working with
public affairs function on a locally-administered disaster operation and
to initiate the public affairs function on a nationally-administered
disaster operation. Prerequisite: Introduction
to Disaster Services.
Local Disaster Volunteers:
(8 hours) The course is designed to help the participants to evaluate
measures that should take place on the unit level and enable them to
administer the Local Disaster Volunteers function in disaster
operations. Prerequisite: Introduction to
Disaster Services. |
